Chanelle Applin, originally from Pigeon Cove, completed her first year of university at MUN’s Grenfell Campus (where she played on the varsity volleyball team!). After her acceptance into the Bachelor of Social Work program, Chanelle moved to St. John’s to complete the remainder of her degree. She hopes to eventually work in an area of social work that helps people with disabilities; her main goal is to make these people more independent, and she wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals, groups, and communities.

Chanelle immersed herself into volunteering before starting university. In high school she helped out at sporting events and graduations, and was involved with Tutoring for Tuition. Chanelle has also worked on a program where she was a leader and activity coordinator for people with disabilities. Her goal was to create opportunities for the people she worked with; she did this for two summers. She also volunteered with the Western Regional Coalition to End Violence, and other community activities.
